Projects

 
INFOSA has over the years been undertaking a number of projects including studies in member countries, mainly in the areas of capacity building in fish marketing, fish processing, quality assurance and aquaculture.. The projects are carried out in collaboration with host country institutions and the responsible fisheries authorities. Besides such specific projects, INFOSA continues to offer technical advisory services, training courses, consultancy services on fisheries and aquaculture on a regular basis. The organization continues to disseminate marketing information and various marketing reports to the fisheries industry in the region.
 

ONGOING PROJECTS:

 

1. Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) Project

This CFC funded project is aimed at Improving Marketing Efficiency of Small Scale Fisheries in Mozambique and Angola and is being implemented in collaboration with the FAO and fisheries institutions in the host countries. The project entails building capacity of small scale fishers through training on Information collection and dissemination, prices and trade opportunities, fish handling and preservation methods, packaging and distribution, new production technology and fish marketing. The project also aims at improving the small scale fisheries sector’s organization. The project started in February 2008 and is expected to be completed by January 2011.

 

RECENTLY COMPLETED PROJECTS:

 

1. Elaboration of Small Scale Aquaculture Development Plan for Mozambique

This project involved undertaking a study for the elaboration of small scale aquaculture development in Mozambique. The project was funded by Centre for Development Cooperation in Fisheries (CDCF) and the Norwegian authorities and carried out in collaboration with the Institute for Aquaculture Development in Mozambique (INAQUA). The study recommended the linkage of small scale farmers to industrial/commercial concerns with support from Government. This will guarantee the sustainability of small scale aquaculture sector in the country. The study started in October 2008 and was completed in January 2009.
