Namibia : HORSE MACKEREL INDUSTRY NOT SURPRISED BY QUOTA
The horse mackerel industry was not surprised by the fishing quotas approved by cabinet last week. The total allowable catch (TAC) fro horse mackerel for the 2009 fishing season was set at 230 000 tonnes, unchanged from this year. A spokesperson for the industry, Kallie Jacobs, said the announcement had been “expected” and that the quota holders were “satisfied”.

Namibia : 2009 FISH QUOTAS MOSTLY THE SAME Fish quotas set by the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources for the new season will remain unchanged from this year for horse mackerel and rock lobster, while the quota for deep-sea red crab will go up. Cabinet has approved total allowable catches (TAC’s) of 230 000 tonnes of horse mackerel for the 2009 fishing season running from January 1 to December 31 2009,

Zambia: DR CONGO RELEASES ZAMBIAN FISHERMEN, 'OTHERS STILL BEING HELD'
The Zambian government announced Monday that 30 fishermen arrested by authorities from neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo on cross-border Lake Mweru had been released but fishermen nabbed in earlier raids were reportedly still being held. Defense Minister George Mpombo said all 30 fishermen, who were rounded up at gunpoint on the lake in early February on suspicion of illegally crossing the border and taken into detention in the DR Congo, had been reunited with their families.
